Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Ancillary Services Officer, and in conjunction with the Clinical Informatics Specialist, the Clinical Informatics Registered Nurse assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system modules, supplemental support systems, and the training of clinical and medical staff.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with providers to ensure system enhancements meet their needs and serve as the primary liaison for this group.
  • Collaborate with all departments and Information Technology (IT) personnel to troubleshoot EMR problems and develop corrective action plans.
  • Participate in process improvement and change management initiatives to maintain and promote an efficient environment.
  • Coordinate all aspects of system updates as they relate to clinical departments, including reviewing release notes, testing updates in the test system, and coordinating education on new functions before deployment to the production system.
  • Coordinate and integrate clinical applications and workflows with other areas and serve as a key liaison with department managers.
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Informatics Specialist, assist with the design of clinical information solutions, including nursing and ancillary applications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to translate data into actionable knowledge in end-user EMR practice while protecting all confidential information.
  • Work in partnership with leadership and staff to translate clinician requirements into specifications for Clinical Information Systems (CIS) and redesign workflows in clinical areas.
  • Work with the Information Technology Director and Clinical Informatics Specialist to review and make recommendations regarding security setup.
  • Assess CIS training needs and develop and deliver appropriate training in a timely manner for all Electronic Medical Record (EMR) users.
  • Coordinate the nursing onboarding EMR training curriculum.
  • Maintain downtime clinical forms, including order sets.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed to create order sets for clinical staff use, ensuring proper clinical committee approvals and sign-offs.
  • Evaluate nursing workflows and documentation practices to identify opportunities for improvement through system design and build.
  • Utilize current knowledge of clinical nursing practice to develop a practice-based Clinical Informatics model using evidence-based practice, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) standards, Meaningful Use, and other applicable practice standards.
  • Identify and correct workflow inefficiencies and assist in evaluating new system builds.
  • Support a wide variety of clinical end users in fully utilizing appropriate application systems through effective communication.
  • Manage complex demands from end users and prioritize tasks effectively to ensure timely issue resolution and efficient use of resources.
  • Participate in clinical facility committees as the EMR subject matter expert as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively in stressful situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

Education and License

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oregon required.

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience interacting in an automated clinical environment required.
  • Five years of healthcare clinical informatics experience preferred.
  • Previous experience implementing systems in a multi-department hospital preferred.

Work Environment

Works indoors in an air-conditioned office environment.

Physical Demands

Frequent use of computers, telephones, and standard office equipment. Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, push, and pull using proper body mechanics, and move or lift varying amounts of weight up to a maximum of 50 lbs.
