Job Summary

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness throughout all hospital departments and delivering linen and resident clothing to designated units within the facility. This position helps maintain clean, sanitary, and safe conditions in accordance with established infection-control standards.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain supplies of soap, towels, toilet paper, and other necessary items in designated areas throughout the hospital.
  • Mop, sweep, and disinfect floors.
  • Vacuum carpeting and rugs.
  • Clean furnishings, fixtures, and furniture.
  • Straighten and rearrange furniture as needed.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms, hoppers, showers, and utility rooms.
  • Clean windows and mirrors.
  • Spot-clean walls and doors as needed.
  • Remove spider webs from walls and ceilings.
  • Clean rooms following the discharge of patients or residents, including beds, mattresses, nightstands, overbed tables, and stationary objects.
  • Remove and properly dispose of waste and trash.
  • Gather soiled linen and transport it to designated collection bins during evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
  • Properly store and stock linens throughout the hospital.
  • Change mop heads and mop water daily in designated areas.
  • Refill cleaning solutions and supplies on hospital units as needed.
  • Properly stock and store housekeeping carts at the end of each shift.
  • Report structural or equipment wear, defects, and malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Order housekeeping supplies in a timely manner during day shifts.
  • Report supply, linen, and equipment needs or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Perform emergency housekeeping duties as requested.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of housekeeping duties throughout all areas of the hospital.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in assigned areas according to established standards and infection-control procedures.
  • Water plants as assigned.
  • Collect clothes hangers and return them to the hanger stand in the laundry room.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

Education and License

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness and ability to adjust work routines to accommodate fluctuating patient census levels and the needs of other departments.
  • Ability to follow established cleaning, sanitation, and infection-control procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned duties efficiently.

Work Environment

Works indoors in an air-conditioned hospital environment.

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull, walk, crawl, climb, and bend using proper body mechanics. Must also be able to move or lift varying amounts of weight up to a maximum of 50 lbs.

Schedule

  • Temporary full-time position.
  • Schedule may vary based on patient census and departmental needs.
  • May include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays as assigned.
