October holds significance for many, but for healthcare providers and communities alike, it carries a particularly important message: Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This October has been especially meaningful for Lower Umpqua Hospital, as staff and community came together not only to promote awareness but also to celebrate our new 3D mammography machine.
As part of the celebration for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the radiology team is recognizing a significant milestone: over 425 mammograms have been completed since the new machine was installed in March. This achievement reflects both the dedication of the radiology staff, our primary care clinic, Dunes Family Health Care and the community’s response to enhanced breast health services.
This milestone would not have been possible without the support of the Lower Umpqua Hospital Foundation and their fundraising efforts to bring this service to the District.
Special thank you to the Judith Ann Mogan Foundation, the Estate of Dorothy Denman, Oregon Community Foundation, Barbara Knudsen Foundation, and many community supporters that made this project a reality.
Not only has this service and innovation improved the quality of care for women in the community, but it has also fostered a renewed commitment to early detection and prevention. With breast cancer being one of the most common cancers among women, having access to such advanced technology is crucial. At LUHD we aim to empower women to take charge of their breast health with more confidence and clarity.
